Through the Mizzy Meets series, my tuxedo cat Mizzy and I hope to spark curiosity, kindness, and a love of nature in children. Each book is inspired by the real wildlife that visits our Alaska porch, blending fun facts with gentle stories told through Mizzy’s curious eyes. My goal is to make storytime both magical and meaningful — a chance for kids to learn about the world around them while creating special memories with the people they love.
Author Visits & Readings
I love sharing Mizzy’s adventures in person! 📚✨ I’m available for school and library storytimes, bookstore events, or private group readings. Each visit includes a lively read-aloud and a Q&A about the real Alaska animals behind the stories.
Looking for a keepsake? I offer signed Mizzy Meets books — either from my author stock or by signing copies you’ve ordered through Amazon. Each one comes with a paw print 🐾 and a personal touch.
Mizzy would love to meet you, but at 16 years old he’s too tired for trips. He’s been with me since he was 3 days old, and now he enjoys sunny naps at home. Through these books, Mizzy gets to visit children everywhere.
Tamera Achin has been a nurse for more than 30 years, but her true joy has always been animals of every kind. A proud cat mom to five beloved felines—including Mizzy, who she raised from just three days old—Tamera laughs that Mizzy has no idea he’s a cat. He firmly believes he’s a small fuzzy child, and the family doesn’t tell him otherwise. She is lovingly called “Snow White” by her children—because whether it has four feet and fur or four feet and spikes, it will be welcomed and fed on her porch.
When she isn’t writing the Mizzy Meets series, Tamera is often traveling—usually by cruise ship—with her husband. She jokes that she may be the only tourist who carries cat treats in her luggage. If there’s an animal to meet, she’ll find a way to pet it, feed it, or make it a friend.
At her home in Alaska, Tamera enjoys life as a lodge owner, welcoming guests from all over the world. She loves sharing stories of the wildlife that visit her yard, introducing guests to the rabbits who play nearby, and of course warning everyone about Waddles the porcupine who waddles up to the porch in the evenings. Many visitors have even had the chance to meet Mizzy the tuxedo cat in person.
Family is at the heart of everything she does. Tamera is a proud mother to grown twin daughters, a grown son, and two grown step-daughters. She is also a grandmother—known as “MiMi” to her grandchildren—and has always encouraged a love of reading. Now, she delights in sharing her own books with them, as well as inspiring them to discover many more stories as they grow.
